- As of May 10th 2000 Minnesota Ace Billiards League, Inc.
(MABL) has been registered with the Minnesota Secretary of State as a
legal Corporation.
- The summer of 2000, MABL purchased a software application from the BCA
that was used for handicapping players and organizing the league. This tool was in place for 2 full
seasons before we determined that a better competitive system was
necessary in order to attract a better spectrum of players.

- As of the summer of 2002 a software developer has joined our group to
assist us towards our new vision to a fairer system of rating each
player. This method has been in
tact for 3 years now and positive feedback has been a result of these changes.
- As of January 2006 Minnesota Ace Billiards League, Inc. has officially
registered its name as Ace Billiards League, Inc.

- Each player has an individual rating that is used to determine the
number of games a player must accomplish to win the match. Example…I am rated a 98 and my
opponent is rated a 64. Subtract
64 from 98 and you get 34. Now
look at the chart below and check the column under the highest rated
player (98 in this case). Take
the number 34 (difference between players rating) and look at the column
to see how many games each player must win to complete the match. This would be an 8 – 4 match.

- You must win your games. You cannot point out to win a match.
- If you win or lose in any week of play, your rating is adjusted
accordingly. Because our handicap
system is designed to move your rating every week you play a match, your
rating will never remain stationary, unless you don’t play any given
week.
- You do NOT have to keep track of innings or safeties. Only the points accumulated during
each game are scored on the score sheet.
- Being individual ratings are similar to other systems around town, we
will gladly accept your outside rating to help allow a smooth transition
into ABL.

- Using the scenario above and playing an 8 – 4 match and you win 8 – 2,
you would have held your opponent to two games under their rating. Each
game won is a total of 14 points (7 for the 8-ball and 1 point for each
of the other balls pocketed). A
bonus of 50 points is awarded for every game you held your opponent
below his/her rating. Using the
previous demo, 2 games X 50 = 100.
Plus you get another 100 points for winning the match and you
also receive the points you accumulated during the match.
- The loser is only awarded his/her total points from the match (total of
1 point for every ball he/she has pocketed)

- Our handicap system has been functioning successfully for over three
years, leaving our next goal only a hurdle away from accomplishing it
successfully. This advertising
campaign has been started so we can attract players from taverns,
nightclubs and pool halls. This
marketing strategy is being executed to help give the players an
alternative choice for competing in a fair and competitive league. ABL
believes a large number of players are not happy with the amount of
prize funds being distributed and are also fed-up with the duration time
between finishing the season and receiving your winnings. We at ABL are proud of the fact that
payouts are delivered the same day playoffs are finished.
